Against Nature, also known as Against the Grain or A Rebours, is a novel by Joris-Karl Huysmans, published in 1884. It follows the life of Jean des Esseintes, an eccentric and reclusive aristocrat who retreats from society to indulge in his aesthetic and decadent pleasures. The novel explores themes of artifice, individualism, and the rejection of societal norms. Against Nature is considered a seminal work of the fin-de-siècle movement.
